Bio: 

Sokeyra (pronounced so-kay-ra) Francisco is a second year doctoral student in the combined History and African American Studies program at Yale University. She is studying enslavement and freedom in the Caribbean with a focus on the island of Hispaniola/Ayiti. Her research looks at experiences of enslavement in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries with particular attention to gender and violence. She earned a BA in History and Peace and Conflict Studies from Swarthmore College.
