Yale faculty join Springsteen as new AAAS members
Seven Yale faculty members, including President-elect Peter Salovey, have been elected as members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the nation’s most prestigious honorary societies.
Donald Kagan to give farewell lecture
On Thursday, April 25, Donald Kagan, Sterling Professor of Classics and History and a member of the Yale faculty for over 40 years, will give a farewell lecture on the eve of his retirement.
The talk, which will focus on the merits of a liberal arts education, will begin at 4:30 p.m. in Rm. 114, Sheffield-Sterling-Strathcona Hall, 1 Prospect St. Sponsored by the William F. Buckley Jr. Program at Yale, the event is free and open to the public.

Jonathan Holloway appointed chair of the Department of African American Studies
President Richard C. Levin and President-elect Peter Salovey announced the appointment of Jonathan Holloway as chair of the Department of African American Studies. Holloway is professor of African American studies, history, and American studies. His term will be for three years, effective July 1.
Naomi Lamoreaux is designated as the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Economics and History
Naomi R. Lamoreaux, who was recently appointed as the Stanley B. Resor Professor of Economics and History, has a range of interests that include corporate governance, intellectual property, and public-private distinction in U.S. history.
Lamoreaux studies patenting and the market for technology in the late 19th- and 20th- century United States, business organizational forms and contractual freedom in the United States and Europe in the 19th and 20th centuries, the rise and decline of innovative regions, and the organizational roots of the right to privacy.
Adam Tooze designated as the inaugural Barton M. Biggs Professor of History
J. Adam Tooze, recently appointed as the inaugural Barton M. Biggs Professor of History, focuses his teaching on modern German history, 20th-century economic history, social theory, and the philosophy of history.
He is the co-director of International Security Studies, a senior research fellow of the Macmillan Center for International and Area Studies and a core faculty member of the Jackson Institute for Global Affairs.
