Rohit De featured on "Ideas of India" podcast

Ideas of India is a new podcast in which Mercatus Senior Research Fellow Shruti Rajagopalan. In this episode, Shruti sat down with Rohit De to discuss his 2018 book, A People’s Constitution: The Everyday Life of Law in the Indian Republic. De is a lawyer and legal historian focusing on contemporary legal issues in South Asia. He is also an associate research scholar in law at the Yale Law School.

"Historians in Practice" workshop series announces 2020-21 sessions for Yale History grad students

The history department hosts a series of professional development workshops designed to help Yale students professionalize themselves by offering deep dives into subjects not normally covered in classes and advising. The series is redesigned each year in coordination between the Director of Graduate Studies and the Graduate Student Advisory Committee. Sessions cover practical, personal, and theoretical issues crucial to the lives and careers of the History graduate community that are not fundamentally scholarly but nonetheless crucial to success and achievement.

Podcast documents Yale in the time of COVID-19

Yale undergraduate Henry Jacob had planned to spend last summer sifting through archives in the United States and Canada researching a proposed senior thesis on the Knights of the Golden Circle, a secretive militant group that sought to form a slave empire in the Americas during the U.S. Civil War.

The pandemic upended his plans. The archival repositories were closed. His thesis idea was shelved. The inability to access physical records made the rising senior and Saybrook College resident consider the importance of oral histories in capturing events for posterity.
