The Department of History takes very seriously the opinions and views of graduate students when hiring new faculty. All graduate students are encouraged to attend candidate job talks, participate in scheduled opportunities for graduate students to meet with candidates, and to review and reflect on candidates’ scholarship and achievements.
To help search committees incorporate students’ opinions in their deliberations, students are invited to submit their comments on search candidates at the conclusion of all of the visits for a specific search. Students also may write directly to the committee co-chairs. Comments on searches are typically needed no later than two days after the final candidate visit.
