Andrea Ho
Bio:
Andrea Ho is a PhD student in modern U.S. history. Originally from Toronto, she studies the fraught histories of Indigenous incarceration, policing, and resistance in the American Southwest during the mid to late twentieth century. More broadly, her research interests include the history of the carceral state, Native activism, urban history, labor, and political economy.
Andrea is committed to community-engaged scholarship and is eager to build on existing partnerships with Indigenous communities and local advocates. She is a co-convener of the Racial Capitalism and Carceral State Working Group and volunteers with the Yale Prison Education Initiative.
Before coming to Yale, Andrea earned her MA in History from New York University and worked with a prisoners’ rights research institute as well as the Diné (Navajo) Policy Institute. She also holds a BSc from the University of Toronto. Andrea’s work has been generously supported by the Organization of American States and the Canadian Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council.
