Abbas Amanat is a professor of history and international and area studies at Yale and the Director of the Yale Program in Iranian Studies. His teaching and research interests include modern Iran and the Middle East, Shi’ism, and apocalypticism. Professor Amanat is the consulting editor of Encyclopaedia Iranica.
