Gil Joseph to receive the 2017 Harwood F. Byrnes/Richard B. Sewall Teaching Prize for distinguished undergraduate teaching

Gil Joseph has been chosen by the Committee on Teaching and Learning to receive the 2017 Harwood F. Byrnes/Richard B. Sewall Teaching Prize for distinguished undergraduate teaching. Gil will receive the prize at a reception next Monday, May 1, from 3:00-4:30 in the Presidents’ Room at the Schwarzman Center.  

HSHM Day

Five Yale seniors headed to Oxford and Cambridge with Keasbey, Henry, and Mellon Fellowships, including History Major Emily Yankowitz

Emily Yankowitz is a history major with particular interest in Anglo-American relations after the American Revolution, early republic politicians and historians, and public history. In addition to conducting research for numerous professors in the Department of History, Emily is an editor for The Yale Historical Review, a leader of a New Haven Girl Scout troop, a Pierson College aide, and an active member of the St. Thomas More community. At Cambridge, she plans to earn an M.Phil. in American history.

Three Yale students named Truman Scholars, including History Major David Shimer

David Shimer, of Davenport College, is majoring in history with a focus on Russia and Eastern Europe. He first developed a passion for the region while in high school, where he wrote an original Cold War thesis under Yale history professor John Gaddis that was later published in the West Point Undergraduate Historical Review. At Yale, he is the editor-in-chief of the Yale Daily News, leading a board of 40 and a staff of roughly 200 students. Shimer previously interned for Hillary Clinton’s campaign policy and debate preparation teams.  He intends to complete his B.A. and M.A.

Learn something new about various historical eras and regions of the world. For juniors and sophomores, get a glimpse of how senior essay research is done and what the finish product is like.
