To mark the fortieth anniversary of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone, Assistant Professor Denise Ho recently co-edited a special issue of the Made in China Journal, published by the Australian National University.  Together with Mary Ann O’Donnell and Jonathan Bach, the forum brings together a group of essays under the title, “Transformation of the Shen-Kong Borderlands.” It is an historical and ethnographic account of the Hong Kong-China border, and includes an overview of the border, a study of the fishing population, a history of the construction corps that built the Special Economic Zone, and ethnographies of: a fishing village, cross-border mobility, the HK-Shenzhen Stock Exchange, and the public health border.  It concludes with an analysis of the “border as a sluice.”
