Peter Haskin is a PhD candidate in history. He studies colonial Latin America, and has a particular interest in its readers and writers of geography and natural history. More generally, his interests include the Spanish and Portuguese empires, science in colonial contexts, the global spread of the printing press, and the history of cartography.

During the 2022–2023 academic year, Peter held a Fulbright-García Robles scholarship in support of dissertation research in Mexico. He spent much of 2024 in Brazil, where he continued his research with the support of a Fox International Fellowship at the University of São Paulo. He has also held fellowships at the Beinecke Library, the John Carter Brown Library, and the Newberry Library.

Peter formerly worked at a non-profit organization that provides legal services to immigrants in Eastern Massachusetts. He holds a B.A. in history from Boston College.
