Bio: 

Luke Stanek is a PhD candidate specializing in East and Southeast Asian maritime history. His dissertation project explores social life on merchant vessels in the middle ages through the study of artifacts from shipwrecks and written accounts of life at port and at sea. His other research interests include tales of the foreign and the strange in 9th century China and the history of board games and gambling in the premodern world.

Originally from Ohio, Luke earned his BA in History from Baldwin Wallace University and MA in History from Miami University. Currently, he splits his time between New Haven and Taipei.
