Bio: 

Ella Starkman-Hynes studies popular culture and historical memory in the 19th and 20th century United States. Her work focuses primarily on Civil War memory and the cultural legacies of the Lost Cause. 

 

Ella has a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy from McGill University, and a Master’s degree in History from Yale. At Yale, she serves as the Student Coordinator of the Race and Slavery Working Group, and works as a research assistant for Professor David Blight. Ella’s work has been published in Muster, the Journal of the Civil War Era’s blog:
