Bio: 
Kaelyn Grace Apple is a first year combined PhD student in the Department of History and African American Studies. Her research focuses on the origins and legacies of slave laws in the British Atlantic, looking specifically at matrilineal slave laws passed by the Virginia General Assembly prior to the American Revolution. Kaelyn is deeply invested in ongoing studies of slavery, legal history, and gender along with providing access to higher education for likeminded students. 
 
Kaelyn earned her B.A. in History and African American Studies from UCLA in 2019 and went on to pursue an MSt in US History from the University of Oxford in 2020
