Richard Velázquez Perales is a third-year Ph.D. student investigating changes in geography, political economy, power, and identity in rural, eastern Guanajuato following the Mexican Revolution. More specifically, he addresses questions of land tenure, dispossession, development, rural social organization, the presence/absence of the state, and finally, how rural violence and criminality factors into regional social dynamics.
Richard Velázquez Perales graduated from the University of North Texas in 2014 with a B.A. in History, International Studies, and Spanish. He also holds an M.A. in History from the University of Oregon.
