This reading group brings together graduate students and faculty with interests in any aspect of the historical study of early modern religion. The meetings focus on a wide-range of topics concerning historiography, methodological approaches, theory, gender and issues relating to archival and library research. The intention is discussion less topic specific than seminars and broadly interdisciplinary in nature. The practice of the group is to read material that stimulates diverse questions relating current developments in the field. The literature serves as a catalyst for conversation. Although papers are not presented, participants are encouraged to speak to issues in their research and writing that invite comparative thinking. The group is open to anyone in the Yale community and is seeking to cultivate contact with the departments of English, History, Political Science and Religious Studies, the Divinity School, and the Medieval, Renaissance and European Studies programs.
