Faculty and graduate students in Art History, Classics, East Asian Languages and Literature, History, Medieval Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Cultures, Religious Studies, and the Divinity School at Yale share interests in ancient and premodern cultures globally. Archaia serves as a nodal point and resource pool for those who work in these periods and problems.
Archaia sponsors the ongoing Ancient Societies Workshop series, which meets once a month on Fridays during the academic year. Presenters include Yale faculty, graduate students, and distinguished scholars from around the world. Connected with this series, it also hosts a co-taught seminar open to students in all member departments which focuses on the annual theme at the research level. Archaia also sponsors an annual research trip open to participating graduate students and offers fellowships for individual study. A certificate program enables students to obtain a qualification in ancient and premodern studies supplemental to their degree.
